My name is Louise Thomas and at 21 I am ranked number 2 in Great Britain in Women’s alpine ski racing.
I started skiing at the age of 3 on family ski holidays and hated it... My parents then made the mistake of dragging me to dry slope to ‘get me into it’ and I haven’t looked back since. I was hooked and then had to be taken every weekend to Sandown to feed my addiction!
I began racing at the age of 11 and have been honoured to be a member of the elite UK ski teams; namely the British Children’s Team, the England Alpine Squad and the British Senior Team.
In 2005, whilst studying for my A-levels at Reed’s School, I was selected to compete at the Youth Olympics in Switzerland. It was an amazing experience and gave me an insight into what my skiing could become. After leaving school with 3 A-levels I followed my dream to the Alps, where I based myself in Val d’Isere, to become a professional ski racer. Dividing my time between Val d’Isere in the winter and Surrey/Europe/ South America (wherever there’s any snow!) in the summer.
I have now completed 3 seasons and have improved massively thanks to a tailored programme, excellent coaching and a lot of hard work. Over this period I was twice the British Junior Champion, competed at the World Junior Championships in 2008 and crowned the Senior Super-Combined Champion.
I have been re-selected to the British Team for the 2009-2010 season and I will be competing on the Europa Cup circuit aiming to qualify for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
My ambition is to compete regularly on the World Cup circuit and to compete in future World Championships and Olympic Games, where my ultimate dream is to win a medal...the future looks bright!
